Walter Weatherby Wallet was an elderly gentleman who won the Sunny Wheat breakfast cereal Vitamin Flintheart Look-alike Contest. His prize included a trip to Dick Tracy's city to meet Vitamin, and attend a screening of all of Vitamin's films.

Flintheart took Walt to meet Dick Tracy, and was surprised to discover that the two men had met many years ago when Tracy was working a case in Wallet's town.

The fact that Walt (who was heavyset, bespectacled and mostly bald) did not resemble Vitamin caused Tracy to have suspicions about the validity of the contest.

Walt later appeared on a TV show that Dick Tracy watched in which Walt commemorated the 100th Anniversary of "Gasoline Alley", his former place of business.

Notes[]

  • Walt Wallet is one of the main characters in the long-running comic strip Gasoline Alley.
  • Walt is over 120 years old.
  • WalletFosdick

    Walt Wallet meets Fearless Fosdick.

Walt refers to the case where he met Tracy as taking place just before the time that he found and adopted his daughter Judy. In Gasoline Alley those events took place in February 1933. This would have been approximately the same time that Dick Tracy was having his first encounters with Stooge Viller.
  • Both Dick Tracy and Gasoline Alley are distributed by Tribune Media Services, which would have placed them both under the editorship of Captain Joseph Patterson in the 1930s.
  • Gasoline Alley often makes reference to other long-running (often discontinued) comic strips. In one such adventure, Walt Wallet found himself wrongfully suspected by Fearless Fosdick when it appeared that the pearl brooch of Maggie Jiggs (of Bringing Up Father) had been stolen. Barney Google also made a brief appearance. Dick Tracy appeared in Gasoline Alley in a series of strips in 2017, but did not interact with Walt.
